Blackboard: Morning downtime resolved

January 27th, 2010 by Andrea Doherty

Blackboard experienced some intermittent downtime this morning between 8:30AM and 9:30AM.  Users were able to log into Blackboard, but upon clicking on their courses, they received a Database Error.  We’ve since restarted our servers and the issue appears to have been resolved.

If you are still experiencing this error, please try closing down your browser and restarting it first.  If you still can’t get in, please contact the appropriate support team:

Instructors: Welcome to the Spring 2010 semester!

January 22nd, 2010 by Andrea Doherty
  • Does your course say (unavailable)? That means it’s hidden from students. Please make your Blackboard course(s) available to students at the beginning of the semester so they may access your content!
  • Check your e-mail address in Blackboard and make sure it’s correct, and encourage your students to do the same.  If you want to send e-mail to your students through Blackboard, it’s imperative that everyone lists valid e-mail addresses.  Otherwise, your students may miss important announcements!

  • By default, students can e-mail their classmates through Blackboard.  While most students conduct themselves appropriately, there have been occasional reports of spamming via Blackboard’s e-mail tool.  If you wish to turn this feature off or restrict student access to e-mail in Blackboard, see our website for instructions.

  • If a student drops your course in order to audit, they will automatically be removed and blocked from your Blackboard roster.  E-mail your course number and the student’s Stony Brook ID number to blackboard@stonybrook.edu if you’d like us to restore their Blackboard access.
