We retain classes for 3 years on our Blackboard system. The time has come to remove courses older than 3 years from our system.
On December 1st, 2008, we will begin to remove all existing 2005 courses on our server, as well as any that are older than 2005.
The only exceptions are:
- Departments that need their course sites for accreditation review
- Instructors who are being reviewed for tenure
If you truly need us to keep your 2005 course, you must fill out a request form prior to Wednesday, November 26th, 2008.

Should you wish to save information from your 2005 (or earlier) Blackboard course for use in future courses, you can archive it and save it to your computer. At a later date, you may import your information into a new Blackboard course site.
To export your Blackboard course:
1. Go to the Control Panel, then select Export Course.
2. Select the Export button.
3. Check the boxes next to the areas you wish to save. If you only want to download articles, you probably will only need to check the boxes associated with Content.
4. Click Submit.
5. Your export will be queued. Click OK.
6. You will be taken back to the Export/Archive Manager. Your export file should appear as a link beneath File Name. If it doesn’t appear right away, that’s ok, sometimes it takes a few minutes or longer, depending on how much stuff you want to save.
7. After waiting for a few minutes, click OK on the Export/Archive Manager, then click Export Course in the Control Panel. Repeat until a link appears beneath File Name.
8. Click on the link. It will look something like this: ExportFile_xxxxxxxxx-20071012031028.zip. Save it to your computer, preferably some place easy to locate, like your Desktop or My Documents.

Posted 18 Dec 2008 at 9:42 pm ¶If you are enrolled in a class but do not see it when you log into Blackboard, it’s possible that your instructor has not made it available to students. Please ask them, and if they need assistance, they may contact us at blackboard@stonybrook.edu.
Posted 19 Dec 2008 at 10:25 am ¶All your work deleted! I used to have nightmares about that happening as a student.
Posted 22 Apr 2009 at 3:45 am ¶Which is why we give instructors ample notice to download grades and assignment submissions.
